About
Kara Mia Fenoglietto’s work explores the self through mixed media materials in sculptural and installation based form. Often wearable, her pieces explore the notion that garments inform our sense of self and explore the stereotypes of identity. People often consider fashion a commodity consumer product mass-marketed to women, but her work explores fashion as a mechanism for empathy. Kara received a Bachelor of Fine Art's degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Kara was most recently a member of the artist collective "Shift", an artist-run co-op art gallery based in Seattle, WA. Her work been exhibited at the Delaware Contemporary Museum of Art and on Vogue.com.
"The goal of my gallery work is to promote the artistry and counter the perception of fashion as a commodity mass-marketed to women. My process typically begins with concept which I then try to translate via material. I play with different sewing and fabrication techniques that compliment the themes my work aspires to reflect. I am interested in exposing the subconscious through my approach to color, surface and space. My explorations of self often expose the disconnect between anxieties and appearances. I am interested in the complicated relationships between adornment and the physicality of the body in relation to the construction of identity".
